Newly acquired in July 2011, two AIS Keeper tooling vending machines were added to the shop floor. With the addition of these machines, GMC is able to manage the inventory of all tooling being used throughout the machine shop accurately. Having the necessary tooling in stock at all times, allows us to keep production running at a "non stop" basis. Incorporated into this system is an email alert function which allows for a daily email sent to management for a number of different reports. For example, if any tool has reached it's predetermined minimum inventory level, a notification is sent to the tooling manager. Once the notification has been received, the tooling manager then places an order for the low inventory items. Thus maintaining the established inventory of tooling at all times.
When a machine operator is in need of tooling, this system makes it very simple for them to retrieve the needed tooling for the job. They simply enter their 3 digit employee number, the part number that is being produced by that individual and finally their bin selection. By entering the part number being produced, management is able to keep a record of how much tooling is being used on a single part with the click of a mouse. This also allows GMC to very effectively keep the cost of machining, any item, to the lowest possible cost that we would have to pass on to our customers.
