The importance of maintaining inventory is a very crucial element of what GMC does. With the required Hanel Storage System in 2010, GMC is now able to maintain and control inventory levels for every job that is ran. Within this system, a Bill of Materials is built. This is the structure of the assembly or single part that will be categorized. The parts information, part number and name, is entered into the system along with a shelf location. Once this information has been entered, the start qty of items is also added. Each time an operator has the need to remove or add a qty for that item, the system must be told either how many are being removed or how many are being added. Thus maintaining an accurate inventory at all times. The storage system is also linked through a network. With this, any employee at GMC is able to log onto the machine, enter the part number they are searching for and in real time, know exactly how many of that item is in inventory.
